The "Idealized-Fiebrand Ignition Test" (I-FIT)—an experimental apparatus previously validated and accepted by the scientific community—was used to examine the ignition time lag of a fuel bed composed of Eucalyptus globulus (Labill) leaves. The fuel bed loading used for the evaluation ranged from a volume fraction of α = 0.05 to 0.07, values typical of fuel beds found in Chilean forests. Additionally, a theoretical model—also previously accepted and validated by the scientific community—provided data to describe the heating and ignition of the fuel beds based on ignition theory. This model was originally developed for pine needle fuel beds and accounts for radiation penetration into the porous matrix. Furthermore, the theoretical model accurately predicts ignition time lag for various α values; however, it exhibits a degree of uncertainty regarding temperature evolution. This explains the significant variability observed with the eucalyptus leaves.en_US
