dc.description.abstract | Bifacial photovoltaic (bPV) modules, which harness both front and rear irradiance, offer superior energy yields compared to traditional monofacial modules. However, accurate modeling and validation of bPV performance remains underexplored. This work addresses this gap by proposing a comprehensive bPV modeling framework, supported by three key validation studies. The first study focuses on bPV module characterization through IV curve measurements and diagnostic testing to assess operational conditions. The second study evaluates and compares three electrical models using indoor IV data, identifying critical parameters that influence curve estimation. The third study presents a coupled electrical–thermal model, combining a hybrid thermal approach with open-access irradiance estimation software. The proposed electrical model achieves high estimation accuracy, with errors below 3% at the maximum power point (MPP) under indoor test conditions. However, simulations under real-world conditions reveal higher discrepancies, attributed to factors such as partial shading and irradiance estimation errors. The findings emphasize key factors affecting bPV performance and provide valuable insights for future research, system design, and performance optimization of bifacial PV technology. | |
