Abstract
Chile leads the copper extractive industry in the world and today is taking important steps that transfer the open pit exploitation method to underground mining. This is why it is necessary for the industry to develop new technologies for a paradigm shift in the Caving exploitation mode, in which the basal area of the mineralized body is subdivided in to blocks, where with scour and blasting the fragmentation of the mineral is induced. solid and then from the extraction the propagation of the subsidence occurs. Therefore, fragmentation is a fundamental parameter to achieve optimal extraction conditions, and also achieve favorable conditions in design, safety and economic benefit. This work seeks to understand the behavior of gravitational flows when different fragmentation conditions are achieved at the time of extraction. This research uses particle ima ge velocimetry (PIV), where physical experiments are carried out on a laboratory scale using a 2D model in which different granulometric distributions are studied, in discrete extractions. The purpose of the study is to simulate the behavior of an LHD, in addition to studying the interaction zones that occur between the movement ellipses (IMZ) when there is one and several extraction points, isolated or simultaneous. Finally, the resulting images are analyzed using PIV to obtain graphs of the velocity and d isplacement fields acquired by the IMZ and will be compared with the studies carried out by Jin (2016). Where it is obtained that the granulometric distribution has a slight impact on the IMZ, this is also significantly affected by the packing changes beca use the sliding capacity of the rocks depends largely on the available interstitial space and the statement by Laubscher is validated (1994), where the degree of interaction between the IMZs increases as the spacing decreases.
