Hyperbolic space has emerged as a promising alternative to Euclidean space for high-dimensional data representations, due to its natural ability to represent hierarchical structures. While most prior work on hyperbolic representations has focused on text-based domains, where hierarchies are explicit, this work investigates their application to image representations, where hierarchical relationships are implicit. We leverage the ability of Poincaré embeddings to discover class–subclass relationships in image datasets, applying them to the tasks of Matrioshka Embeddings and Deep Clustering. Experimental results on datasets such as CIFAR10/100 and Imagenette show that hyperbolic embeddings outperform their Euclidean counterparts in Matrioshka Embeddings, particularly in low-dimensional downstream tasks where dimensionality constraints are critical. However, in Deep Clustering, the hyperbolic approach presents stability challenges that limited its applicability. Finally, we analyze the limitations of current hyperbolic approaches in the image domain and discuss future research directions for scalable, hierarchy-aware representation learning.en_US
