Abstract
We report on the measurement of the ๐›พโข๐‘โ†’๐ฝ/๐œ“โข๐‘ cross section from ๐ธ๐›พ=11.8โ€‰โ€‰GeV down to the threshold at 8.2 GeV using a tagged photon beam with the GlueX experiment. We find that the total cross section falls toward the threshold less steeply than expected from two-gluon exchange models. The differential cross section ๐‘‘โข๐œŽ/๐‘‘โข๐‘ก has an exponential slope of 1.67ยฑ0.39โ€‰โ€‰GeVโˆ’2 at 10.7 GeV average energy. The LHCb pentaquark candidates ๐‘ƒ+ ๐‘ can be produced in the ๐‘  channel of this reaction. We see no evidence for them and set model-dependent upper limits on their branching fractions โ„ฌโก(๐‘ƒ+ ๐‘โ†’๐ฝ/๐œ“โข๐‘) and cross sections ๐œŽโก(๐›พโข๐‘โ†’๐‘ƒ+ ๐‘)ร—โ„ฌโก(๐‘ƒ+ ๐‘โ†’๐ฝ/๐œ“โข๐‘).
