Weak-grid conditions may limit the active-power transfer capability of wind power plants based on doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs), reducing the reserve effectively delivered at the point of common coupling (PCC). Although deloaded operation creates an active-power margin for participation in frequency-control services, this theoretical reserve does not necessarily coincide with the additional power that can be transferred to the grid when converter-current limits and grid strength are considered. This work analyzes the effect of the short-circuit ratio (SCR) on the reserve-delivery capability of a DFIG-based wind power plant. The power system, wind power plant, and associated control systems were implemented in RSCAD and simulated using a Real-Time Digital Simulator (RTDS), considering different SCR values, wind speeds, deloading levels, and operating regions. Overspeed-based operation was included as a qualitative reference, whereas the quantitative assessment focused on pitch-regulated operating cases. The simulations were used to determine the theoretical reserve, the average effective reserve delivered during the first 8 s, and the delivered reserve ratio ηR,8s. The results show that reserve deliverability depends on both grid strength and the turbine operating point. As the SCR decreases, PCC-voltage variations and rotor-side converter (RSC) current demand increase, reducing the current margin available for active-power injection. When the converter-current limit is reached, part of the released mechanical power cannot be transferred to the PCC and instead(...).en_US
