In this Thesis Work overhead cooling capacity of the fractioning column C3/C4 E-955 in LPG3 Unit was analyzed and simulated as well as the cooling capacity of the fractioning column of propane propylene E-1301 in the DIPE Unit at ENAP Refinerias Aconcagua, with the objective of identifying possible operational problems and its mitigation alternatives. Considering the actual operation conditions, it was determined that the overhead energetic requirements of devices E-955 and E-1301 were 2848[kW] and 7615[kW] respectively. The actual performance of the air coolers obtained from the process simulation, indicates that the real cooling capacity of the air coolers bay of unit E-955 is 3032[kW], less than the design value of 3954[kW], this explains the problems observed when room temperature is near 27°C. Even though in the beginning this decrease in cooling capacity was attributed to fouling and deterioration on the devices, on site revisions and simulation of the process were helpful in assessing and recognizing that the problem was due to an uneven fee d distribution. The actual performance of the bay of air coolers of the splitter E-1301 obtained through simulation is of 7788[kW] less than the design value of 9000[kW], this also explains the reduced efficiency (output) at room temperatures near 27 Celsius degrees. Even though both units are capable of satisfying the energy requirements of their respective units, temperatures that exceed 27°C aren’t capable of condensing all of the overhead products, an energetic limit of temperature was established for both columns, 29°C in the Column E-955 and 32°C in the fractioning column E-1301. An historical analysis of ambient temperatures in the city of Concon, shows that (...).eng
