The accurate quantification of surface nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions constitutes a critical challenge for air quality management, particularly in domains characterized by complex orography and high population density, such as Central Chile. Traditionally, emission budgets have been estimated using Bottom-Up approaches, such as the National Anthropogenic Emissions Inventory (INEMA), which rely on static statistical formulations and theoretical activity factors. Although useful for regulatory planning, these accounting methods exhibit systematic shortcomings by omitting the actual thermodynamic degradation of the vehicle fleet, dynamic congestion, and the uncertainty involved in accurately identifying all anthropogenic pollution sources. This research develops and implements a Top-Down satellite modeling framework based on the Flux Divergence Approach (FDA), integrating high-resolution spectrometric observations from the TROPOMI instrument (Sentinel-5P) with kinematic and photochemical fields simulated by the WRF-CHIMERE regional transport model for the 2018–2025 period. Methodologically, the research addressed fundamental geometric and radiative perturbations. It was demonstrated that the use of global a priori vertical profiles (TM5-MP) systematically underestimates the concentrations retrieved by TROPOMI. The numerical convolution of satellite retrievals with regional CHIMERE profiles allowed for the correction of the Air Mass Factor (AMF), recovering up to 44% of the tropospheric NO2 mass over the urban areas of Santiago and Valparaíso. Subsequently, to guarantee strict mass conservation and avoid numerical advection artifacts generated by the bow-tie effect of polar orbits, the spatial divergence differential operator was solved (...).en_US
